We start the year with our exciting topic, 'We are Pirates!'. We'll be learning about maps, keys and compass directions in Geography to help us navigate the vast oceans and hunt for treasure! In Art we will make our own pirate flags using a fun printmaking technique, and the knowledge we gain in Science about different materials will help us make a pirate ship that floats. Peter Harris and Deborah Allwright's fantastic book, 'The Night Pirates', will be guiding us along our pirate adventure. So let's set sail...ahoy me hearties!
Pirates Curriculum Overview
This week Year 2 celebrated the end of our Pirate topic with Pirate Day! The children had to complete nine pirate-themed activities throughout the day, including making a parrot, walking the plank and a treasure hunt. It was a fantastic day and the children looked amazing in their costumes. We're waving goodbye to our Pirate topic for now, but get ready for another learning adventure next half term...
This half term we will be finding out about the Great Fire of London in 1666. We will be making our own houses and we will recreate our own 'Great Fire' by burning our houses in Forest School. We will be baking biscuits to sell in our Year 2 bakery. We will also be finding out about a local fire - when the Crystal Palace burnt down in 1936.
