Have a look at what Year 2 did in the Autumn Term!
We start the year with our exciting topic, 'We are Pirates!'. We'll be learning about maps, keys and compass directions in Geography to help us navigate the vast oceans and hunt for treasure! In Art we will make our own pirate flags using a fun printmaking technique, and the knowledge we gain in Science about different materials will help us make a pirate ship that floats. Peter Harris and Deborah Allwright's fantastic book, 'The Night Pirates', will be guiding us along our pirate adventure. So let's set sail...ahoy me hearties!
This week Year 2 celebrated the end of our Pirate topic with Pirate Day! The children had to complete ten pirate-themed activities throughout the day, including making a parrot, walking the plank and a treasure hunt. It was a fantastic day and the children looked amazing in their costumes. We're waving goodbye to our Pirate topic for now, but get ready for another learning adventure next half term...
To finish off the Autumn Term we'll be learning about the extraordinary life of Florence Nightingale. In History we'll be thinking about what is was like to be a nurse during the Crimean War, and comparing Florence's experiences with those of modern day nurses and doctors. In Guided Reading we will look at a variety of non-fiction texts, identifying their main features and using the information we gather to create our own digital books about Florence Nightingale.
