Here at James Dixon Primary our mission is to teach every child to read and write and to create a passion for reading.  To help us succeed we follow the Read Write Inc programme (RWI) to ensure they get off to a flying start with their reading and writing skills. 

RWI is a successful programme that allows your child to become fluent readers and writers.  The sessions are taught in small groups and your child will learn to recognise and form each letter, spell correctly and compose their ideas step-by-step. 

The children learn 44 sounds (speed sounds) which are divided into 3 sets.  The focus is on the letter sound rather than the name of the letter.  Please click on the links below to hear a member of staff saying these sounds.

Our highly skilled teaching staff have all received training to ensure an excellent and consistent delivery of the daily sessions. We assess and group the children regularly, making sure that every pupil receives the right level of support to enable him/her to be the best they can.
